It’s time to review the first graphic novel in another language. I got Les Mondes de Lovecraft, a French Bande Dessinnée, by a friend for my birthday and I practically devoured it. So let me give you my opinion briefly. The book contains five short stories by different writers and artists, all inspired by the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft (complete works). The art ranges from stylistic drawings to standard comic book artwork. The story Dagon by Teddy Kristiansen is a direct adaptation of the short story by Lovecraft and I think it is the best of the five. What I also liked a lot, were the opening panels for the different stories, all done by Olivier Peru. I don’t know what else I can say about this book as it is quite short, it’s only forty-eight pages long after all. It is a delightful read, full of the dense atmosphere that Lovecraft is famous for. Guaranteed goose bumps included.
